Production design for animated short

The objective of this project is to convert the horror short story The Murders in the Rue Morgue, written by Edgar Allen Poe in 1841, into an animated short. My task has been to establish the visual look and design for the story and to make the story appealing in a visual format.

Set in a gloomy part of nineteenth century Paris, this story is about two philosophically intrigued fellows, who are trying to solve a mysterious and brutal double murder. We follow them, as they - in their own clever fashion - solve the puzzle right under the noses of the clueless police.

This story was written before the Sherlock Holmes series and is considered the starting point for the private detective genre.

My target audience is from 10 and upwards. I’m trying to accomplish a “tongue in cheek” mystery horror film with focus on suspense. By that I mean, I’d like the film to be scary and thrilling but also fun.
